Perdue Reiterates His Support for President Trump’s Stimulus Package

Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) reiterated his support on Wednesday for President Donald Trump’s revisions to the pandemic stimulus bill, including an increase in direct payments, a repeal of Section 230, and the establishment of an election commission.

“We’re standing with the president on all the issues out there that we see in front of us, the $2,000 deal, the Section 230 issue, as well as the election commission that the president has called for,” Perdue said on the Fox News Radio’s “Guy Benson Show.”

Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) and Perdue issued a joint statement shortly after President Donald Trump signed the CCP virus relief bill that they said would greatly benefit Georgians. They criticized Democrats for their “socialist agenda that prioritizes wasteful, irresponsible spending over the well-being of the American people.”

“We look forward to continuing to fight alongside the president in his relentless pursuit to keep America great,” Loeffler and Perdue wrote.

Democrat Senate candidate Raphael Warnock, who is challenging Loeffler, called on her to support increased payments. “Donald Trump is right, Congress should swiftly increase direct payments to $2,000. Once and for all Senator Loeffler should do what’s best for Georgia instead of focusing on what she can do for herself,” he said in a statement.

Loeffler and four other Republican senators have expressed support for the increased payment.

Incumbents Perdue and Loeffler are up against Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in the run-off election on Jan. 5. Should Democrats take the seats in the runoff, the seats of the two parties in the Senate would be a 50–50 tie. The vice president as president of the Senate casts the deciding vote in the event of a tie.

President Trump has announced a rally in Georgia on the eve of the run-off to boost Republican votes. Biden has also promised to attend a rally for the Democrat candidates.

“What I’m called to do right now is hold the line and make sure we don’t lose my seat. Kelly Loeffler’s committed to do the same thing,” Perdue said.
