The new extra-caffeinated cola Pepsi Max is now being marketed as a component in the ongoing advertising gimmick known as the “cola wars.” PepsiCo, Inc. and Coca-Cola Company have battled for decades for the cola drinker’s attention, some times literally, in commercials.

Pepsi released a revised version of its famous Super Bowl ad set in a diner featuring Coke and Pepsi drinkers. The commercial features Pepsi Max drinkers and Coke Zero drinkers battling over the beverages after sharing with each other. The new cola from Pepsi carries a high level of caffeine setting it apart and from Pepsi’s other drinks, giving it its own marketing identity. The drink is competing against Coke’s most recent addition to its line of soft drinks, the Coke Zero. Coke Zero has done well targeting males who are looking for diet drinks minus the seemingly feminine “diet” label.

“"We think now is the time to start banging on the drum, on the fact that we believe we have a great tasting, zero-calorie soda and we’re ready to take on the competition,” said a Pepsi spokeswoman to the Associated Press.

Pepsi is also continuing its Refresh Program. The cola giant is donating $1.3 million to the ongoing efforts to stop the BP oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico. Pepsi is also allotting grants to various individuals and community restoration projects.

Coke Zero has designed a new layout for its label, dedicated to the upcoming NFL football season. As the NFL moves through its long awaited season the culmination will bring forth yet another Super Bowl that will undoubtedly feature another round of ads from both companies.

Coca-Cola is also continuing its Live Positively campaign that highlights healthy living through education, environmental activism, and healthy products.
