As many as a dozen vehicles were involved in a major freeway crash on Interstate-83 near York, Pa., on Thursday afternoon, causing a backup.
The accident shut down the freeway between Glen Rock and Loganville, reported freelance reporter and photographer Jeff Lautenberger.
KDKA-TV reporter Tim Williams wrote on Twitter that as many as a dozen vehicles were involved.
On Twitter, users posted pictures of the accident--which included mangled cars and overturned vehicles--and the backed up freeway.
It is unclear when the stretch of freeway will be reopened.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation wrote on its website: “Attention Travelers: I-83 North is closed at Exit 8 due to a multi-vehicle accident. Follow the blue detour, turn left at the end of the ramp at Exit 8, then turn right onto Susquehanna Trail North. Follow the Blue detour.”
Drivers should expect “major delays,” it added.
It is also unclear if there were any injuries.
