A 44-year-old American man has been sentenced to prison after pleading no contest to charges that he married his wife’s daughter.

Christopher I. Hauptmann of Pennsylvania will serve a term ranging from one year to two years, reported Penn Live.

The saga started when Hauptmann married Shannon Deitrich in Florida in 2015.

A year later, Hauptmann married Deitrich’s daughter Kaylee Durovick--without having divorced Deitrich, according to a previous Penn Live report.
Durovick is 25 years younger than her mother.
“This is a bizarre case,” Shamokin District Judge John Gembic said, reported the Daily Item.

Hauptmann said he respects the law and always follows it in the initial hearing early in 2017.

“I have always been on the side of the law, and I have had police back me up several times,” he said, reported the Item.

“That’s why they handcuffed me in the front because they know I am no threat to them.”

Hauptmann and his second wife own and operate PA Bail and Recovery in Coal Township.

As part of the sentence, Hauptmann must not contact his first wife. As Penn Live noted, a no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is acknowledgment the prosecution had sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction if the case went to trial.
Hauptmann’s first wife and her daughter are not on speaking terms, Deitrich indicated on Facebook.

“Ripping my heart out all over again,” she posted soon after her husband married her daughter, according to the Item.

On Oct. 31, Deitrich posted: “Met with my divorce attorney ... feeling very hopeful and seeing a light at the end of this black hole marriage. finally!!!”
