A father in Pennsylvania has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the death of his young son while the man was allegedly passed out drunk.

David Gammon, 35, told police he had been “sipping” on a Four Loco alcoholic energy drink when he took 2-year-old Anakin Gammon and his 5-year-old brother outside to play. He said he “must have dozed off” allowing the children to wander away, according to WKBN news.

A third son approached a neighbor saying he couldn’t wake his dad or find his brothers. The neighbor found Gammon asleep on the lawn, smelling of alcohol and unable to understand what was being said to him, according to WKBN.

Investigators estimate Gammon left his children unsupervised for at least 30 minutes.

Police found the 5-year-old a few blocks away from Gammon’s home, playing outside.

But Anakin, 2, had strayed into a backyard across the state line in Masury, Ohio and drowned in a swimming pool.

Emergency services attempted to revive the toddler but he was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Gammon is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children.

According to WFMJ the officer who filed the charge said: “There is probable cause that David Gammon was reckless in consuming enough alcohol while caring for his children, that he lost consciousness allowing them to wander from the property.”
