Four people were shot and killed and others were injured in a Ross Township, Pennsylvania, municipal government building, it was reported.
Monroe County Coroner Bob Allen on Monday confirmed the deaths, according to the Ponoco Record.
The suspect shot through a wall with a pistol armed with a scope while workers were having a meeting in the building, said Chris Reber, a Record reporter.
Reber said that everyone in the room for the Ross Township supervisors meeting dropped to the floor.
The shooting “was automatic, like a string of firecrackers,” said Reber. “That’s what everyone said.”
After the shooter shot multiple people, Bernie Kozen, executive director of the West End Open Space Commission, tackled the shooter and turned the gun on the shooter. Kozen shot the shooter with the shooter’s gun.
Two others people were wounded in the shooting. They were transported to nearby hospitals.
Monroe County emergency management director Guy Miller told The Associated Press that the suspect was captured and is in police custody.
The Allentown Morning Call reported the shooting took place at the municipal building near Anchorage Road at around 7:20 p.m. The area was secured around 40 minutes later.
The Call said that as many as six people were shot.
Ross Township, with a population of 6,000 people, is located in Monroe County in Western Pennsylvania.
