The Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to a 12-year $104.4 million extension that will keep their star Sidney Crosby signed through the 2024–2025 season, according to a report on the team’s website. The annual cap hit on the deal will be $8.7 million.

“This is a great day for hockey and tremendous news for the Pittsburgh Penguins and our fans,” co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle said in a joint statement. “We are grateful for all that Sidney Crosby has done for our franchise since coming to Pittsburgh in 2005, both on and off the ice, and we look forward to having him in a Penguins uniform for the rest of his career.”

The 24-year-old former MVP led the Penguins to the Stanley Cup in 2009 and in doing so became the youngest captain in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup. In 434 career games he has scored 223 goals and assisted on 386 others.
