Amid allegations that he milked the state out of millions via a not-for-profit organization, former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr. was voted out in the Democratic primary by Bronx residents, losing to challenger Gustavo Rivera.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and the FBI have been investigating whether or not Espada and his friends stole $14 million from the state via his Soundview health clinic.

“What's next for me is to continue being a senator through December 31st and to continue to be a family man that I have been and a father and grandfather,” Espada said after conceding defeat.
