Daughter of Fast & Furious franchise actor Paul Walker has settled a lawsuit with Porsche, the maker of the car her father was driving when he died.
The lawsuit claims that the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT had stability issues, a faulty seat belt, and other flaws that the company knew about. Daughter Meadow Walker and a legal team claim that the seat belt snapped Paul back with immense force, causing his ribs and pelvis to break, and that Walker was unable to unbuckle the seat belt and escape the car before the engine fire consumed it, according to The Blast.
The precise terms of the settlement are confidential, but both parties are now looking to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit.
It comes after an earlier lawsuit settlement that Meadow, currently 18-years-old, collected from the estate of Roger Rhodas. Rhodas was a friend of Paul Walker and driver of the car that killed them both. Meadow collected $10.1 million in that settlement last year.
Roger Rhodas and Paul Walker were killed in 2013, over Thanksgiving weekend, while racing a sports car between 80 and 93 miles per hour in Valencia, California. Walker was on break from filming “Furious 7” at the time. The car slammed into a light pole, trees, and a sign denoting the 45 miles per hour speed limit. Paul was 40-years-old at the time. Coroner’s reports indicate that Rhodas died from injuries related to the impact, while Walker died from both injuries from the impact and the resulting fire, according to an interview with Meadow Walker’s lawyer by E! News.
In his will, Paul left his entire estate of $25 million to his then 15-year-old daughter. Paul’s father was given control over the estate. A battle over custody between Meadow’s grandmother and Paul’s ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Soteros, followed. Some sides indicate the battle is due to money, others that it is to get Meadow away from Soteros, who has an alleged problem with alcohol.
Paul Walker was a star of the Fast & Furious action movie franchise, appearing in almost every installment of the series before his death in 2013. Walker was a car racing enthusiast in his off-screen life, too.
