Paul Walker, the star of “Varsity Blues” and the “Fast and Furious” movies, has died. Reports on Saturday said the cause of death was a car accident.

TMZ and ABC News both reported that he died. He was 40.

On Facebook, his Facebook page wrote: “It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.”

It added: “He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.”

TMZ said that he died in a single-car accident and showed a photo of a burning car wreck.

Law enforcement sources told the website that another person, who was not identified, also died in the crash.

The accident took place in Santa Clarita near Los Angeles. The L.A. County Coroner’s Office is on the way to the scene of the accident.

Walker was apparently in a Porsche when the driver lost control of the vehicle, and it hit a tree or signpost. The car then burst into flames.

Walker had acting roles in the “Fast and Furious” movies, “Taken,” “Varsity Blues,” and he appeared in a number of other shows and films.
