Former Prime Minister Paul Martin is one of 66 distinguished Canadians appointed to the Order of Canada, announced Dec. 30 by Gov. Gen. David Johnston. The GG’s list of 1 companion (Martin), 28 officers, and 37 members of the Order of Canada includes retired general Rick Hillier, hockey great Scotty Bowman, and former senior diplomat Robert Fowler, who was kidnapped by al-Qaida in July 2008 and held hostage for 130 days.

Other names of note include former Canadian Forces head Maurice Baril, former eBay executive Jeffrey Skoll, and author and storyteller Stuart McLean, host of CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café.

Recipients will be invited to Ottawa to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
