A loaded gun was found in a student’s backpack on Tuesday at Patterson Elementary School in Houston, Texas.
Parents were alerted to the situation in a letter that was sent home with students, reported ABC.
The school district said that fellow students saw the gun and reported it to a teacher, who promptly confiscated it and called police.
The 9-year-old brought the gun in from home, police said.
Unspecified disciplinary action was taken against the student.
Parents were also notified by phone.
