Miami Heat president Pat Riley has been named the 2012 recipient of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, according to a report on the NBA’s website.

The award, named after NBA coaching-great Chuck Daly who passed away in 2009, is handed out by the National Basketball Coaches Association to mark those for their long-term contribution to the game of basketball.

“This is not an award,” said Riley, who was a close friend of Daly. “This is something somebody bestows on you. I’m very honored that the Coaches Association would do this.”

As a coach Riley took three different teams to the NBA Finals and came away with the title five times. Currently his Heat are in their second straight Finals series.
