Passenger ‘bomb’ sandwich: A passenger was detained by airport officials for talking about an explosive device, but he was really talking about a sandwich called “The Bomb,” the New York Post said.
Jason Michael Cruz, 29, was walking through Terminal 7 at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Thursday when an airport official heard him talking to his friend that he had “had the wrong kind of bomb,” the newspaper said.
The worker told her supervisor, who then sent airport officers to question the man. Cruz told them that he was talking about a sandwich that was called “The Bomb.”
The airport official said that she heard Cruz’s comment out of context.
He was held at the airport until police arrived, forcing him to miss his flight to Los Angeles.
Gothamist elaborated on “The Bomb” sandwich, which is a 12-inch sub from Sal, Kris, and Charlie’s Deli in Astoria, Queens.
“The Bomb is about as long and thick as the forearms of the big guys who are the majority of the clientele here,” wrote a Serious Eats review of the sandwich. “Hearty eaters could probably polish off a 12-inch Bomb in a single go, but nibblers could easily get two lunches out of it,” it added.
Last month, a traveler at nearby Newark Airport, was so angry that he threatened to “put a bomb in [his] bag.” The man and his family later disappeared after police went looking for them, according to Gothamist.
