A baby in the United Kingdom was abused so badly that he had to have both of his legs amputated, a judge heard in court this week.

The parents violently assaulted their baby, who was just 41 days old at the time, causing injuries so bad that doctors had no choice but to remove the legs.

The parents, Jody Simpson, 24, and Anthony Smith, 47, showed no remorse after the horrible abuse was inflicted, the Maidstone Crown Court heard from prosecutors, reported The Independent.

When Simpson finally took her child to a doctor, she said the baby was displaying cold-like symptoms.

The doctor immediately rushed the baby to a hospital after seeing he was near death.

By that time, the baby had turned grey, reported The Sun.

X-rays showed eight fractures, including a dislocated ankle caused by it being “yanked.”

The baby ultimately survived but suffered a great ordeal that included many months of treatment and being anesthetized 11 times.

The parents are said to have been living in a tent near Canterbury before being arrested.

Simpson and Smith both denied causing the injuries.

But Judge Philip Statman said in the sentencing that he found them at fault.

“[Baby Tony] sustained, at the hands of one or the other of you, injuries which will, and have, caused his life to change dramatically. I cannot be sure which of you caused either, all, or any of the injuries and the precise role each of you played,” he said. “It’s not an exaggeration to say he was almost at the door of death. Who can a child of 41 days turn to other than those who brought him into the world and are meant to love him unconditionally? This did not happen in this case.”
