A suspect who reportedly opened fire at the Garden State Mall in Paramus, located in Bergen County, New Jersey, was apparently wearing black body armor and had a high-powered rifle. Preliminary reports say the man fire at security cameras.
Reports on Twitter said people were hiding in closets.
The shooting took place at around 9:30 p.m.
Citing witnesses, WNBC reported that the gunman fired shots into the air.
Fox New York reported that the suspect–a male–was wearing body armor and had a rifle. Witnesses said there was a large police presence there.
News 12 reported that police are still looking for a suspect.
It is unclear if there were any injuries.
The mall was evacuated.
“There was just people running like crazy so I quickly just closed my doors, ran to the back, turned off all the lights, music and everything, just to stay hidden,” mall worker Eddie Kahmann told CNN.
