A newborn panda cub is receiving intense love from its mom and is under intense watch by the zoo. The cub was just born June 12, a week ago. Even though it’s still tiny, it’s 30 grams (1 ounce) heavier than last week.

The mother, 11-year-old Shin Shin, feeds and plays with her cub all day. Shin Shin lost a cub five years ago. It died days after being born.

Both Shin Shin and Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo want to see this new cub grow healthy and thrive. So they are keeping their eyes glued to Shin Shin and baby.
