Competitors in Day-2 of the Hebe Haven Spring Saturday Series had to contend with strong winds and blustery conditions that increased the difficulty of racing last Saturday March 2.
New competitors added to the spectacle. Eight boats set off in the IRC Division and nine for HKPN. Although strong competitors Signal 8 and X-terminator were missing due to a clash of race days with RHKYC HKRNVR, old friend Vixen and No One Else added to the fun.
In the HKPN Division, Dea II showed her racing capability gaining a first and a second place, while newcomer Geoff Tayler in Paloma won race four on calculated time and also had a credible fourth in Race 3.
Geoff Tayler, owner-skipper of Paloma, had an exciting second race.
“Conditions were quite tough, especially in the second race,” Tayler told The Epoch Times. “We were flying our 150 per cent Genoa and the gusts were up to 15 knots. We were clinging on for grim life.
“Still it gave us some extra boat speed and we were constantly battling DEA for position throughout the entire race,” he added.
In the IRC Division, Mohito continued her good performances with a second and first place, while Vixen finished first and second in the two races. Stella also improved her consistency with third and fourth places.
It is still early days in this 12-Race series so there is still a lot to play for even for newcomers starting on Race Day-3.
