A fire erupted at a pallet yard containing in Southern California on Saturday, according to reports. The pallet fire could be seen for miles.

The wooden pallets, located in an industrial area in Fontana, erupted into a column of flames in the afternoon, forcing firefighters to respond.

NBC Los Angeles reported that firefighters climbed on ladders with hoses to douse the fire.

One firefighter was injured attempting to put the blaze out, the San Bernardino County Fire Department told the station.

The fire triggered smaller spot fires in vegetation near the pallets, but they were put out.

The Los Angeles Times reported that by 5 p.m., the fire was 80 percent contained.

San Bernardino County spokesman Eric Sherwin told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin that the fire was fueled by 10 propane thanks that exploded.

Reports said the fire created black smoke that could be viewed for miles.

One building next to the pallet fire was destroyed. Three employees told the Daily Bulletin that three big rig trucks were also destroyed
