BUENOS AIRES—Painter Nilda Peró said she felt pleasure, pride, and joy about Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company visiting her city. It started its 2013 season in Buenos Aires, the only Latin American city where it will perform this year.
Speaking for her fellow Argentinians, she said, “We are very happy about this kind of activity, where dance and music are included. All of this is very important for us because we are not used to seeing work of this quality, where tenors, choreographers, dancers, all together work toward the goal of spreading such an important culture for the world.”
Ms. Peró saw the company at the Teatro Ópera Citi on Dec. 15.
Ms. Peró said many people in Argentina admire Chinese painting, “Chinese painting is an attraction to many people, and all arts that have to do with the Eastern world are exciting to us.” Shen Yun is based in New York, and intends to revive Chinese culture, according to its mission statement.
Digitally projected landscapes and scenes are part of Shen Yun’s visual artistry. According to it’s website, “With state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one. The backdrops are magical windows to completely different realms.”
The artist responded to the exuberance and teamwork of the performers as well as to the imagery. She said she thought they displayed unity and enthusiasm. “What a pleasure—so much coordination, so much joy from people so young, ”with the batteries on“ as we say, to cooperate, to be in group, as a team. With such a happy spirit!” she said.
She credited the skill of the choreographers and of all the artists for creating the complete experience, she said. “Of course, I do give great value to the choreography, I mean to the entire work in conjunction.”
Argentina is famous around the world for its culture, especially music, dance, and costume. Ms. Peró said, “To us, Argentinians, we feel passion for these things.”
