The NCAA issued sanctions to The Ohio State University football program on Tuesday, citing the Buckeyes guilt for failure to monitor, preferential treatment, and extra-benefit violations according to the NCAA website. The Buckeyes will be ineligible for post-season play next season, face reduction of scholarships, and forfeit $340,000.

Former head coach Jim Tressel was cited for not reporting the violations to the NCAA, and will be limited to athletic related duties for 5 years.

The punishment came after eight student-athletes were found to have received over $14,000 in cash payments as well as receiving cash for memorabilia. Among those players was Terrelle Pryor, former starting quarterback. Pryor left OSU hoping to escape punishment for his role in the violations, but had to serve a five-game ban with the Oakland Raiders anyway.
