A bill banning handheld cell phones while driving is to go before Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski to become law, after having made its way through the state Senate and House this legislative session.

According to a local news report on KGW-TV in Portland, Ore., the governor has indicated he will sign the bill.

Currently, five states, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, along with the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands prohibit all drivers from using cell phones without hands-free devices.
