Viewing Earth From the ISS
This time-lapse footage was shot from the front of the International Space Station (ISS) as it circled the Earth one night.
The video begins above the Pacific Ocean and gradually heads north over America to Antarctica, where dawn is breaking.
Various lightning storms are visible during the ISS’s transit as well as the Earth’s ionosphere which appears as a greenish border.
The one-minute sequence was created by science teacher James Drake and posted on his blog, Infinity Imagined, using a series of 600 photos.
As the ISS orbits Earth every 90 minutes, astronauts onboard could see scenes similar to this 15 times a day!
