Netflix original series, “Orange Is The New Black” got three awards during the Thursday night’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and “Fargo” also garnered three. Although “True Detective” got one award in the Best Actor category, it was the speech that made it a memorable win.
“Orange Is the New Black” won best comedy series, best supporting actress in a comedy series for Kate Mulgrew, and one for Uzo Aduba in the best guest performance in a comedy category. The show is already creating buzz as the most competent competitor at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards later this summer.
Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor in a Drama Series category for his role as Rust Cohle in the HBO show “True Detective” and made a impressionable, heartfelt speech. During the speech McConaughey gave a shout out to his “brother” Woody Harrelson who stars with him in the series.
“He’s out there, you know I love you bud,” McConaughey said during his acceptance speech. He then talked about the importance of television and why, after a lifetime in film, he chose to go into television.
“Television is raising the bar on the character-driven drama series. What other medium do you get to have that tasty act one? That’s what television has given us as artists, and that’s also what television has given us as audiences,” he said.
