Walmart temporarily shut the doors to its San Clemente, California, location Dec. 29 to deep clean the store.
The Walmart Supercenter at 951 Avenida Pico was expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Dec. 30. A third-party cleaning service was hired to clean and sanitize the building after shelves were cleared of merchandise.
“Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts,” Walmart said in a statement.
“When the store reopens, we will continue conducting associate health screens and temperature checks, and all associates will be provided with face masks and gloves.”
San Clemente’s closure for deep cleaning came after Walmart’s Anaheim Superstore on 440 N Euclid St. closed for a similar scrub down. The north county store reopened Dec. 29.
Walmart stores across the country have closed for similar deep cleanings.
The company said the process is part of the “extensive measures” it has taken to protect employees and customers.
Walmart has installed sneeze guards at registers, temperature checks, social distancing signage, mask mandates, and health ambassadors to ensure that everyone is wearing a face covering, the company said.
“We will continue working closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting how we serve the community while also keeping the health and safety of our customers and associates in mind,” Walmart said in the statement.
