The megastar said she will take 300 lucky viewers Down Under from her studio in Chicago for an eight-day celebration of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’s farewell season. Actor and pilot John Travolta will allegedly be flying the star spangled Qantas jet to Sydney.

“I wanted to kick off my 25th season in a big way, and I’ve heard Australia is the ultimate adventure. It’s one of the places I’ve always wanted to visit, and who better to take with me on this trip of a lifetime than some of my most loyal viewers?” Winfrey said on the premiere of her show’s 25th season. “My team has been planning this trip for almost a year, and we are so excited to go Down Under.”

The adventure is set to take place in December with plans to tape a special show in the Sydney “Oprah” House on Dec. 14. Two or more episodes of the show will be filmed in Australia and aired on US screens in early 2011, according to the celebrity’s website.

Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson welcomed the event as a boost for Australia, according to AAP. “Oprah is a global household name and her star power has the potential to lift Australia’s profile as a premier tourist destination,” he said in a statement.

“This truly represents an amazing opportunity to showcase Australia, the warmth and hospitality of our people and the depth and breadth of everything our country has to offer visitors from around the world,” he said.

More than $3 million will be spent by the federal and New South Wales governments on the Oprah coup, AAP reported. Ferguson says it will be money well spent with Oprah’s following of 40 million American viewers and the show screened in 145 countries.
