Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi faces heavy opposition ahead of a no confidence vote to be held Tuesday in Italy’s Upper and Lower House Parliament.
Thousands of supporters of the main opposition party, the Democratic Party, crowded streets in Rome to back the no confidence vote. The opposition accuses Berlusconi of trying to bribe lawmakers to back him in Tuesday’s motion, euronews reported.
His former ally Gianfranco Fini said that Berlusconi will lose the confidence vote, “We find ourselves in a situation of political crisis with this government," he said, in an interview with Italian government broadcaster Rai 3, according to AFP.
In the last few months, the 74-year-old Berlusconi has become subject of several scandals over corruption and sexual escapades.
In September he barely survived a first motion of no confidence.
The no confidence vote would end Berlusconi’s career as prime minister, which began in 1994.
