Several women have accused former Vice President Joe Biden of improper or unwanted physical contact.

The first woman, Lucy Flores, a former Nevada state lawmaker, accused Biden on March 29 of engaging in an “awkward kiss.” Then, Amy Lappos indicated that Biden pulled her close to him while she was working at a fundraiser.
Lappos told the Hartford Courant, “It wasn’t sexual, but he did grab me by the head. He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth.”
Other women have since come forward with similar stories.

In light of these allegations, and based on recent “precedent,” Democrats would seemingly be calling on Biden to refrain from adding his name to the pool of potential presidential candidates. Sadly, however, this hasn’t been the case, once again raising the specter of a double standard that revolves exclusively around politics.

The allegations against Biden are unsettling. Yet, in an ironic twist, Biden recently provided his thoughts about sexual assault and misconduct during a speech on March 26.

According to the New York Post, Biden indicated that women are suffering in large part due to “white man’s culture,” and referenced the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh as evidence that the culture hasn’t changed.

More particularly, Biden stated: “It’s not about sex. It’s about power. The most insidious abuse of power of all. And right now, we live in a culture where the abuse of power is allowed to penetrate the highest offices of government, where it lives in boardrooms and global corporations, and it poisons entire industries—from Hollywood to hotel workers. It pushes down women all around the world. ...

“No man has a right to lay a hand on a woman, no matter what she’s wearing, she does, who she is ... Never. If you see a brother taking an inebriated co-ed up the stairs at a fraternity house and you don’t go and stop it, you’re a damn coward. You don’t deserve to be called a man.”

In other words, Biden appeared to suggest that “power” is a catalyst for such conduct and that the “white man’s culture” fails to understand or recognize the injustices that women face.

Of course, Biden (a white male) held the second-highest position of office in the nation and has been “particularly affectionate with women in business and social situations” in the past, according to the Washington Examiner.

Lappos also said, “I never filed a complaint, to be honest, because he was the vice president; I was a nobody. There’s absolutely a line of decency. There’s a line of respect. Crossing that line is not grandfatherly. It’s not cultural. It’s not affection. It’s sexism or misogyny.”

It was not too long ago that Justice Kavanaugh was falsely accused of sexual assault by more than one women. The accusations were unsupported, uncorroborated, and without any factual basis. Despite the absence of any evidence, Democrats immediately labeled him as unfit, called for his immediate disqualification, threatened impeachment, put him through endless investigations and unrelenting inquiries, and threatened possible legal action.

When Kavanaugh was finally confirmed, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) released a statement calling Kavanaugh’s confirmation a “profoundly heart-breaking day for women, girls, and families across America.”
This is the epitome of hypocrisy. On the one hand, Kavanaugh was falsely accused and was put through hell before finally taking his rightful place on the Supreme Court. Virtually every Democrat voted against his confirmation, despite the absence of any evidence to support the allegations against him. Some of the women have since admitted to fabricating the alleged incidents involving Kavanaugh.

Why, then, have Democrats failed to follow the “Kavanaugh precedent” with Biden, who is a possible candidate for the nation’s highest office?

While the allegations against Biden are not as “serious” as they were against Kavanaugh, shouldn’t they at least be investigated? Shouldn’t his conduct serve to disqualify him from running for the presidency? In Kavanaugh’s case, Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) even suggested that the presumption of innocence or due process shouldn’t apply to Kavanaugh. Why should Biden be any different? Don’t the women who made the allegations against Biden deserve to be believed?

As if right on cue, Pelosi opined that she didn’t feel that the allegations against Biden should keep him from a possible 2020 run.

“I don’t think it’s disqualifying,” Pelosi said in an April 2 interview with Politico. "He has to understand in the world that we’re in now, that people’s space is important to them, and what’s important is how they receive it and not necessarily how you intended it.”

Is Pelosi implying that Biden’s conduct would have been acceptable in the “past"? In other words, is it only inappropriate to “grab someone by the head” because societal standards have changed? That position is nonsensical, as it is highly unlikely that any woman would “accept” what Lappos allegedly endured (which wasn’t merely a violation of her space), regardless of when (i.e., what generation) the incident took place.

Unfortunately, the recent allegations involving Biden have, once again, served to remind Americans of the Democrats’ blatant double standards. With Kavanaugh, Democrats did everything they could to delay his confirmation, despite the absence of any evidence of wrongdoing. They portrayed him as a “guilty” man and treated him in a similar fashion.

While Biden doesn’t deserve the despicable type of treatment that Kavanaugh was forced to endure (nobody does), Democrats should at least hold him to the same standards.
