As a California transplant to Texas, one of the most surprising cultural differences I’ve noticed is how early motherhood is perceived. In California, when a girl gets pregnant right out of high school, it’s treated as a crisis—something to be managed, hidden, or quietly endured. But here in Texas, I’ve watched it be celebrated.
