A crucial lesson of history is that ideas have consequences. They do in action; for instance, appeasement brings disaster. But also in theory because, rather than existing in isolation for “pragmatists” to select from an intellectual buffet, they link logically so adopting one particular notion may carry you to an ideological destination you didn’t anticipate or much like.
