Norwegian browser developer Opera Software has at last released the newest version of its desktop Web browser Opera 12, which has been worked on for nearly a year.
Aside from the main perk of the browser being evidently faster in its startup and page loading times, Opera also allows its user to personalize the browser with a whole new set of themes that could be changed without having to restart the browser.
Distinguishing itself from the other browsers, Opera 12 allows websites to use the user’s computer’s Web camera to take photos from the browser. As a result, the user could more easily set a new Facebook profile picture or just to see what he or she would look like with a mustache.
Opera 12 has also made itself more stable than its predecessors. Just like Chrome and Firefox, Opera 12 now isolates plug-ins in a separate process, meaning that even if a Flash-based game locks up, the other tabs would remain responsive.
While Opera is the most popular desktop browser in some countries, Opera only held 5 percent of browser usage globally as of April 2012, while Internet Explorer captured 26 percent, Chrome 25 percent, and Firefox 22 percent.
