The OnePlus One phone is making waves recently--not only because the phone is supposed to be good, but the company behind it has told people to smash their phones (and record it) and they could win the OnePlus One.

“Our revolution started with a simple vow : Never Settle. Now that the OnePlus One has arrived, you don’t have to anymore. Don’t settle for useless features, grainy pictures, or exorbitant prices. Get rid of the past, it’s time to smash it. 100 of you will be the world’s first owners of the OnePlus One - all you have to do is to smash the phone you currently have,” the company, Cyanogen, says on its website.

These winners will get the phone for $1.

There’s also an unusual process for people who don’t wish to smash their phones but also want to purchase a OnePlus One. To do this, you must receive an invitation email.

“Invites will also be made available through friends, contests, and on this forum,” according to the company. And people who buy the phone can then invite friends.

The regular price for the phone is $299 (16G) or$349 (64G).

The phone has a 5.5-inch full-HD display along with a Sony 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.

Cyanogensays that its battery should last the whole day with a charge through the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and that OnePlus One is compataible with most 4G/3G networks around the world.

It runs a basic version of Android 4.4.

As for the release date--the phone will launch in late May (no specific date yet; expected to be released soon) in a host of countries, including Canada, France, Italy, Taiwan, the U.K., and the U.S.
