Once Upon a Time season 3 ended with a surprise appearance from Elsa, of the movie “Frozen.”

The character was facing away from the camera so it wasn’t totally clear that it was her, but the show’s producers confirmed it was.

Co-creator Eddy Kitsis was asked whether Elsa and Rumplestiltskin have a history because it seemed that he was a bit afraid of the chamber that she was locked up inside.

“It seems like they’ve crossed paths…” he said.

As for the role of Elsa, it hasn’t been cast yet.

“Is this role Maggie Grace’s or Elizabeth Mitchell’s to lose?” TVLine asked Kitsis and co-creator Eddy Horowitz.

“We are so excited to dive into the process of casting. We literally delivered the final [cut] of the finale on Friday…” said Horowitz.

“… and now we have two weeks off. When we come back we’ll start dealing with casting,” added Kitsis.

The potential casting of Grace or Mitchell is intriguing, partly because both starred in the hit television show Lost. Several actors from that show have appeared in Once Upon a Time, principally Belle (Emilie de Ravin), but also King Arthur (Alan Dale) and Anton aka “Tiny” (Jorge Garcia).

Grace played Shannon on Lost while Mitchell was Dr. Juliet Burke. Grace appears to have several films in the works but Mitchell seems free of commitments after Revolution, the show she starred in recently on NBC, was canceled.

As for the projected premiere date for season 4, it’s pegged for sometime in fall 2014. The first season premiered on October 23 while the second and third season premiered in late September (29 and 30). So season 4 should premiere sometime around that time frame.
