Onagawa Nuclear Plant: Small Tsunami Hits Plant, Says TEPCO

A small tsunami hit the Onagawa Nuclear Plant early Saturday following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast.

The tsunami was about 1.8 feet (55 cm).

The plant is able to withstand a 55-foot (17 meter) tsunami, according to NHK.

Onagawa is part of Ishinomaki City, which is part of the east coast of Japan that is under a tsunami advisory following the quake, which hit about 200 miles off the coast.

The plant is not currently in service.
