Omaha, NE: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for ‘Dangerous’ Storms; Possible Tornado

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in the Omaha, Nebraska area on Tuesday night.

Officials are warning that the weather could produce a tornado.

The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. CDT.

“Severe thunderstorms were located along a ling extending from seven miles northeast of Logan to six miles west of Underwood to six miles north of Omaha ... moving east at 45 miles per hour,” the National Weather Service said, as of 4:38 p.m.

“These are very dangerous storms,” it said.

The storms include gusts of up to 80 miles per hour and baseball size hail.

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” it said, telling peopel that they should get inside.

Locations impacted other than Omaha include Ralston, La Vista, Logan, Treynor, Carson, Elk, Irwin, and Defiance.

The warning comes as a confirmed tornado is on the ground near Ord and Ericson as of 4:42 p.m.

The National Weather Service said that it’s moving toward Greeley and Spalding, and will arrive near the locations at 5:10 and 5:20 p.m.

“Take cover now!” it said.

“Heavy rainfall may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or heat the tornado. Take cover now.”
