Ohio Teen Accidentally Shoots Friend in Head while Drinking and Playing with Guns

At some point one might think that the general message would sink in—guns are not toys. Guns can be dangerous if mishandled.

Friends can shoot their friends in the head if they get careless.

Yet again, a young person has been shot by his own friends while playing with a loaded firearm.

In this case, the victim and an unnamed 20-year-old resident of Akron Ohio, at least survived the close-range blast.

Seven young men were drinking in the victim’s East Exchange Street apartment in Akron at about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, according to Akron police. All of them were playing with various handguns, aiming them at each other and putting them in their own mouths.

One of them, 19-year-old Dominic Radesic, of Medina, Ohio, playfully pointed a loaded handgun at the apartment owner’s head—and accidentally pulled the trigger.

The victim was not killed. Akron Fire department EMTs transported the youth to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Radesic fled the scene. Police arrested him at his home in Median, Ohio, later that day.

Radesic was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of felonious assault, tampering with evidence, weapons under disability, and obstructing official business.

Police also arrested another one of the young men at the scene.

Rick S. Oberacker, 24, allegedly grabbed an audio recorder from one of the detectives investigating the shooting and began shouting into it.  Oberacker was booked into Summit County Jail on a charge of misconduct in an emergency.

Teen Killed Friend Playing With a Stolen Gun

In a similar incident, a 12-year-old girl fatally shot a 16-year-old friend with a gun recently stolen from a nearby car.

The victim, 16-year-old Brentrice Wilson of Madison, Tennessee, was one of a group of girls staying in the apartment of the 12-year-old’s grandmother. The girls snuck out on the night of Dec. 31 and broke into some cars parked nearby.

The girls found a gun in one of the cars. They brought it back to the grandmother’s apartment. The 12-year-old was playing with it when she accidentally fatally shot Wilson.

In another incident, a teen in Oregon fatally shot himself while playing Russian roulette.

The teen showed up at the Carriage Park Estates mobile home park in Sherwood, Oregon, where a number of young adults had gathered.

The teen had a partially loaded .357 revolver, which he dry-fired at himself at least once before shooting himself.

“It appears that he brought a handgun with him and from witnesses accounts that he was playing a game known as Russian roulette,” Sherwood Police Capt. Ty Hanlon told KOIN. “We believe that he showed up and initiated this all on his own.”

The victim’s name has not been released, but police described him as being in his mid-teens, according to the Sherwood Gazette.
