Two veteran Ohio police officers were so moved when they discovered the lifeless body of a mother in front of her nine children that they have spent days trying to help in every way they can.
Two officers from the department responded to a call of an unresponsive female on Wednesday evening, Dec. 13. The arrived to find the mom deceased in front of her children.
The mother was accompanied by her supposed ‘friends’ before her death.
“Not only did they leave her to die, but they stole her money as well and told the kids they were leaving to go buy a 2-liter of soda,” the Middletown cops wrote.
The officers were so moved by the scene that they got the rest of the department involved in helping the children.
“It has disturbed us so much that it’s time for us to make a difference,” the police wrote. “Their father is a hard worker, he has tried to make ends meet but it’s a vicious cycle.”
The Middletown police are now asking anyone who can donate items or funds to pitch in.
“We will take anything you are willing to donate. We need clothing desperately, we need coats, blankets, food, a stove, a refrigerator, we even need ornaments for the Christmas tree we just took to them and of course toys,” Middletown police wrote. “The kids range in age from 14 to 1.”
The children are girls ages 14, 5, 3 and 1; and boys ages 13, 11, 10, 6 and 2.
“This family has touched our hearts and we want to help them,” the police department wrote. “It’s not about our Facebook page, it’s not about ‘Likes’, it’s about pure human compassion.”
The chief of the department made a $200 donation to the family and is now challenging others to pitch in as well.
Hundreds of people left comments just three hours after the message was posted pledging clothes, a refrigerator, cash, blankets, gifts, toys, and food, among other donations.
“I’m going to bring Christmas decorations and clothes and more,” Melissa Frances Reams commented. “How tragic just awful my prayers go out to all involved.”
“Wow this is so sad. You know it’s rough when veteran officers are affected so greatly,” Donya Tucker commented. “We will bring something down tomorrow to help this family. Thank God the children have a good father because this is going to be hard for them all.”
