Three suspects in the Ohio bridge bombing plot on May Day of this year received prison terms Tuesday.
The father of 20-year-old Connor Stevens, one of the defendants, told the court that his son was entrapped by the FBI, reported The Associated Press.
“My son is guilty,” James Stevens said, “and so is the government.”
The suspects attempted to blow up the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge, but their bombs and dud detonators were given to them by undercover FBI agents. The suspects were arrested on April 30.
“These defendants were found to have engaged in terrorist activities and will spend nearly a decade in prison,” U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “These sentences should send a message that when individuals decide to endanger the safety of our community, they will be held to account.”
Douglas Wright, 27, the leader of the group, received 11.5 years in prison, Stevens received 8 years in prison, and 21-year-old Brandon Baxter received 9 years in prison.
