A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer wasn’t hurt after colliding with an SUV while pursuing a speeding suspect on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Hercules on August 27 afternoon, according to the CHP.

The collision occurred at 5:57 p.m. near Appian Way in Pinole, CHP officials said.

The officer noticed a white Hyundai sedan speeding around 90 mph near the Willow Avenue exit in Hercules. According to the CHP, the driver of the sedan at first slowed down and appeared ready to pull over, but then took off and drove recklessly in an attempt to evade the officer.

The driver of the sedan then cut off a green Jeep Cherokee, which lost control and crashed into the center divider, right in front of the motorcycle officer who struck it, according to the CHP.

The CHP said neither the Jeep driver nor the officer was injured in the collision. The suspect in the Hyundai was not captured by the CHP.
