A police officer in Clarksdale, Mississippi, was shot in the head while investigating a robbery at a convenience store, reports say.
The two suspects were wearing masks and are now on the run, CNN reported.
The wounded officer, who is with the Clarksdale Police Department, was hospitalized and now is in stable condition.
Mayor Bill Luckett said the men were robbing the store when the officer noticed suspicious activity. He caught up with the robbers, who stole money from a cash register, and they shot him, leaving him bleeding in the street.
Luckett told wmcactionnews5.com that the men came through the front door of the Corner Grocery at Sunflower Avenue and Second Street. The clerks ran out the back door.
