Occupy Philadelphia protesters have remained at their encampment at Dilworth Plaza near City Hall past a deadline for their eviction, according to local media.

Mayor Michael Nutter gave the demonstrators until late Sunday afternoon to leave but many remained, according to ABC-6.

A leader of the protest movement, Gwen Snyder, said the protesters will remain there unless the city gives them another site.

“We held Dilworth, which is wonderful,” Snyder told the television station on Monday. “Folks are really excited that we kept the space.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that around 75 tents remained at the plaza, adding that there were little signs of police, only city workers who were cleaning up. The workers were not forcibly removing any of the protesters who stayed.

“The whole goal today to clean up all the messes left behind by the people who moved out,” a protester, Michael Pierce, told the newspaper.

There were no demonstrations organized for Monday, the Inquirer reported.
