A 12-year-old girl who was so obese that a doctor said her body mass index (BMI) is at “dangerously high levels” has been taken from her mother.
The girl was placed into foster care after the doctor alerted social workers to the situation in Leicester.
The local council then began legal proceedings against the mother, reported the Daily Mirror.
The takeaway is currently temporary but could turn permanent.
Judge Clifford Bellamy said in court this week that the doctor examining the girl noted her BMI was at a “dangerously high level,” reported the Express & Star.
Bellamy ruled that no names of those involved, such as the mother, could be identified publicly as of now.

The ruling was made in a preliminary session. The next step is a more formal session where medical experts who examine the girl will testify, reported the Leicester Mercury.
The exact weight of the girl was not shared.
The Mirror noted that recent figures indicate a third of primary school students in the United Kingdom are obese or overweight.
Almost 10 percent are diagnosed as obese before they even begin kindergarten.
