The “Obama Unveils New American Flag” article on a satire website is still circulating online.

The article is still circulating after being published in November 2012.

The Daily Currant website where it was published is like the Onion, which publishes satire articles, but it is lesser known so it fools people more.

The story claims that Obama introduced a new flag in a press conference. Featuring a green and red background to depict “Islam and SOcialism, respectively,” the flag pictured in the article has a haphazard combination of symbols.

These include a communist hammer and sickle, six French fleur-de-lys (to represent to six “important states” of California, New York Illinois, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Hawaii), and Arabic writing that says “People’s Republic of America.”

Obama is quoted as saying in the article: ““Look I earned political capital in this campaign and I intend to spend it. I’m not running for reelection again. So I can do what I want, when I want. America’s an Islamic, Socialist, 420-friendly nation now. And it needs a flag to match.”

The article also claimed that constitutional experts said Obama had the legal right to fly the new flag over all government buildings, but would need Congressional and Senate approval to become the new official flag of the United States.

Some people have believed the satire, such as one person who sent an email this month to Snopes, a website that claims to debunk rumors and falsehoods.

“Is there any truth to the executive order issued by the President about a new red, green and yellow American Flag?” the email said.
