Obama’s administration is considering filing a lawsuit against the controversial Arizona Immigration Law. According to several media reports the federal government’s Justice Department is building the case.

In a recent TV interview in Ecuador, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the Obama administration will file a suit to block the controversial law. Administration officials have confirmed the statement.

“President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining the immigration policy and the Justice Department, under his direction will be bringing a lawsuit against the act,” Clinton said in the interview with an Ecuadorian journalist.

“But the more important commitment that President Obama has made is to try to introduce and pass comprehensive immigration reform,” she said. “That is what we need; everyone knows it and the president is committed to doing it.”

The Arizona law is due to go into effect in July and would require residents in the state to show their immigration papers if stopped by police. A lack of immigration papers would be considered a crime according to the law, which would be one of the toughest measures against illegal immigration in the nation.
