In a display of bipartisan support, President Barack Obama on Monday signed a bill into law that provides tax credits to businesses that hire veterans.

The legislation also improves on job training programs and counseling programs for veterans.

“Because Democrats and Republicans came together, I’m proud to sign those proposals into law. And I urge every business owner out there who’s hiring to hire a veteran right away,” he said at the signing event, flanked by both Republican and Democrat Congress members.

The veterans’ job bill was both unanimously passed in the House and in the Senate.

“It’s the right thing to do for you. It’s the right thing to do for them. And it’s the right thing to do for our economy,” Obama added, in reference to businesses hiring veterans.

Obama then called on Republicans and Democrats to work toward passing his sponsored $447 billion American Jobs Act, which is currently stalled in Congress. “My message to every member of Congress is: Keep going, keep working,” he said.
