Obama Campaign Raises $68 Million in Fourth Quarter

|Updated:

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign raised $68 million in the last three months of 2011, according to campaign manager Jim Messina, in an announcement.

“But there’s no secret strategy that we can count on. There is no cavalry. There’s only you,” Messina said, adding that more than 1.3 million Americans have given campaign money in the last year.

Most of the donations are small-dollar, at $250 or less, he added. In the past quarter, more than 580,000 people donated to Obama’s campaign.

“The only way this thing works is if each of you take a piece of this campaign and help build the best grass-roots campaign in modern political history,” he said.

GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney’s campaign on Wednesday said that it raised $24 million in the fourth quarter, according to Reuters. Ron Paul raised $13 million and Newt Gingrich raised $9 million.
