A rare sea creature, the oarfish, was caught on camera off of a beach in Mexico.

Employees with the SHedd Aquarium in Chicago were on a trip to Baja and witnessed two oarfish in shallow waters.

The video they posted online has attracted over 1 million views in 2 days.

Oarfish were last in the news after two washed ashore in California.

Some believe that the sightings of the creatures in shallow water or on beaches portends forecoming bad situations such as earthquakes, since the creatures are so rarely seen and usually live in the deep sea.

In fact, according to NOAA, the creatures probably only come to the surface when they’re injured or dying.

The creatures were first caught on tape in 2001 in the Bahamas.

Russ Vetter,  a genetecist and physiologist with NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center, said in an interview posted on the agency’s website that the oarfish come from the least explored ecosystem left on Earth.
