A flash flood warning has been issued for Oahu, an island in Honolulu County in Hawaii, on Monday.
“At 1218 p.m. HST radar showed an area of nearly stationary heavy rain near Kunia, or about 14 miles northwest of Honolulu, with rain rates as high as 3 inches per hour,” reported the National Weather Service. “In addition. Rapid rises in water levels were reported in streams in southwest Oahu.”
Later, the service said: “Spotters in village park in Waipahu are reporting mud and water on the roadway along Kime Street. Intense rainfall continues to pound southwest Oahu, and additional flooding is likely to occur.”
Other locations impacted include but are not limited to Waikele, Waipio, Waianae, Pearl City, and Mililani Town.
A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low-lying areas. “Move to higher ground now,” said the service.
Run-off form the storm may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain.
The warning could be extended if flash flooding persists.
