NYC Man Arrested in Connection With Father’s Fatal Beating

NEW YORK—Police say a New York City man has been arrested and is accused of beating his father to death.

Dimitrios Safetis was arrested Friday night on manslaughter, assault and weapons possession charges. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.


Dimitrios Safetis,19, was charged with manslaughter, assault and weapons possession after the incident.

The New York Police Department says the 19-year-old is accused of fatally beating his 57-year-old father. Police said Ioannis Safetis suffered trauma to the left side of his head and scratches to his face.

Officers responding to a call reporting an assault in progress in front of a home on Utopia Parkway in Flushing found him unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital, where he died.

The father and son lived together in an apartment in the Auburndale neighborhood.
