NEW YORK—Tuesday was the first day of summer, as well as the longest day of the year. Summer means picnics, trips to the beach, hotter weather, and ice cold drinks. The Epoch Times asked some New Yorkers about their plans for the summer.
Julien Mellom, 27, Actor, Brooklyn
I’m planning on hitting up some of the cool Brooklyn festivals like Celebrate Brooklyn, I don’t know if they’re still doing the dance parties down at Brooklyn Bridge Park, but if they are, I went to one in May that was pretty sick. …Trying to get some of my friends on some of the new rides at Luna Park and watch them throw up.
Marco, Student, Croatia
We need to find a job, [we came] a few days ago. We’re staying for the whole summer.
Ken, 60, Artist, Manhattan
I don’t have any plans, I have to hang around here and sell my artwork. I’ve been in Soho, I’ve been on the West Side, I do street fairs on the weekend. … I haven’t got any money.
Barbara, Retired, Manhattan
I’m going to the beach, Fire Island, down in Suffolk County.
Charles, 50, Retired Government Worker, Manhattan
I was on the road for three months—I just got back. [Went to] about eight states, from here to Detroit and from Detroit all the way down to Alabama, [and] Georgia, [and] back up on 95 to here. … I’m going drive down to L.A. next, probably. I’m from L.A.
Melat, 31, Nonprofit, The Bronx
I just arrived to New York very recently, so I don’t know what goes on really. … I would love to explore more: more parks, more water places, events, happenings on the streets, [and] music; I like music, that’s what I’m looking for.
Michelle, 23, Nanny and Writer, Queens
I’m going learn how to drive. I’m going to Long Island for that I think. …[And] go to the beach hopefully … do promotion for my new website. I want to see different parts of the city. Barbecues, it’s very typical summer. Hopefully travel, I’d like to see clear, blue water before fall comes.
